The author of “The Sunshine Sisters” is drawn to books by their covers: “There is still nothing like browsing in a bookstore with all the time in the world, allowing myself to be drawn to whatever catches my eye.”

What books are currently on your night stand?

American Kingpin,” by Nick Bilton; “What the Living Do,” by Marie Howe; “The Orphan’s Tale,” by Pam Jenoff; “Sapiens,” by Yuval Noah Harari; “Touch,” by Courtney Maum; “The Immortalists,” by Chloe Benjamin; “My Absolute Darling,” by Gabriel Tallent; “Seven Days of Us,” by Francesca Hornak. And that’s just the top shelf.

What’s the last great book you read?

Depression over the state of the world kept me from reading for a few weeks towards the end of last year, but I started again with an advance copy of “Saints for All Occasions,” by J. Courtney Sullivan, devoured it over a weekend and found my reading mojo again.

What influences your decisions about which books to read? Word of mouth, reviews, a trusted friend?

All of the aforementioned, plus, perhaps more than anything, covers in bookstores. There is still nothing like browsing in a bookstore with all the time in the world, allowing myself to be drawn to whatever catches my eye.
